What sets a high-performing athlete apart from other players?

Have you ever watched a sporting event on TV and noticed what happens in the post-game interview when a professional athlete is asked to discuss what made the difference between winning and losing?

Often, and particularly in tightly contested victories, the answer centers on the mental game.

Winners know they can win, want it more and never give up.
The best athletes often credit self-confidence, the ability to overcome adversity, recovering from failure and never giving up as key components of their success. These skills characterize a positive mindset, but make no mistake, acquiring them doesn’t happen by accident. Like anything worth having, it takes consistent, intentional effort to develop a positive mindset.

As your mental performance coach, I will guide you.

Together, we will unlock the resources you need to discover and maximize your talent, to develop new skills, to identify the obstacles impeding your growth and create strategies to overcome them.

Like personal training, mental performance training is a collaborative process. I will give you the tools you need to shift your mindset from negative or even neutral to positive, but ultimately, you are the person responsible for making the change. Here’s some of what you’ll gain from working with me.

Testimonials

My daughter Heather started coaching with Antoinette a few weeks ago and I have already seen improvement in her as an athlete. She has shown improvement with her mental game and quickly recovers when mistakes are made. Antoinette is amazing with athletes. Heather enjoys her coaching sessions and looks forward to having them.

I considered myself well organized, but couldn’t quite get to a comfortable place with my workload. Antoinette’s coaching methodology called out the barriers to achieving the next level of success. I really appreciate her attention to detail and willingness to discuss different approaches versus a one size fits all solution.

Antoinette probed to help me identify issues which may be keeping me from performing at my best. The coaching sessions with Antoinette were focused, tailored to my needs, and the concepts were usable and easily understood. I have appreciated her experience and expertise.

What's your story?

“I perform well in practice, but I get really nervous under pressure and fall apart in games.”

Self-awareness is critical to mastering your mindset. I will guide you on a deep dive to discover the subconscious processes that govern your thought patterns. We will use proven strategies to reframe your thoughts in order to neutralize your performance anxiety and convert it into functional energy.

“I can never make just one mistake. One mistake leads to another and another and another.”

If this is you, you might find yourself spiraling out of control and getting upset when mistakes like this happen. Even when practice or competition is over you might replay mistakes over and over in your head and feel upset all over again.

Here’s the thing: mistakes are not failures. They are attempts at learning. I will guide you to approach mistakes with curiosity, as opportunities for collecting data about yourself in order to improve. This mindset allows you to rebound and refocus quickly on what you can control.

“I don’t get enough playing time and it makes me mad because I know I’m better than my teammates who are playing more than me.”

Comparing yourself to others puts the focus on the wrong people. Remember, you can only control yourself, what you think and what you do. Working with me, you will shift from external to internal motivation. Getting as much playing time as possible isn’t bad, but it can’t be your primary motivation. Ultimately, your coach makes the line-up so playing time is not something you can control. I will help you identify the things you can control. Together we will create actionable process goals designed to help you maximize your strengths and talents so you can be your best self. Earning playing time is a byproduct of this process.

“Does Mental Performance Coaching really work? Isn’t it better to just spend my time in the gym getting stronger and faster?”

Yes! Mental Performance Coaching really works! Tiger Woods began working with a mental performance coach at age 13! Micheal Jordan worked with a mental performance coach for more than 15 years. All the best athletes, including Kobe Bryant, Tom Brady, Michael Phelps and Simone Biles to name a few, work with Mental Performance Coaches. No amount of physical training can make up for a lack of mental strength or a poor mindset.

The proper mindset is the key to unleashing your potential.
